چکیده

This paper gives a description of offline handwriting acquisition under controlled and uncontrolled conditions for research purposes. The data collection task is an underestimated part in the process of developing signature verification or handwriting identification systems. There is a continuous need for new, unpublished data to train and evaluate new algorithms. Handwriting samples that make up the current publicly available databases have all been collected under controlled conditions. However, good quality data is still limited. On the contrary, research databases constituted of case related biometric data in general are scarce. To suit forensic purposes, it is preferred to start building databases with forensically relevant data. When verification and identification systems are trained on this type of material, the output will be more suited for forensic examination purposes. The challenges in this area are considered. Keywords—offline data, data collection, signature verification, forensic handwriting examiner

Offline Language-free Writer Identification based on Speeded-up Robust Features

This article proposes offline language-free writer identification based on speeded-up robust features (SURF), goes through training, enrollment, and identification stages. In all stages, an isotropic Box filter is first used to segment the handwritten text image into word regions (WRs). Then, the SURF descriptors (SUDs) of word region and the corresponding scales and orientations (SOs) are extr...

Effect of Gap Acceptance Behavior of the Right Turning Vehicles on the Major Road Stream for Uncontrolled Three-Legged Intersections under Mixed Traffic Conditions

Uncontrolled intersections are the intersections where there are no external signs or signals to control the movement of vehicles. In mixed traffic conditions priority rules are often violated by the road users. In All-way-stop-controlled intersections (AWSC), the vehicle should stop themselves before they enter the intersection and should check whether any vehicles are present in the other app...

Generation of Synthetic Training Data for an HMM-based Handwriting Recognition System

A perturbation model for generating synthetic textlines from existing cursively handwritten lines of text produced by human writers is presented. Our purpose is to improve the performance of an HMM-based off-line cursive handwriting recognition system by providing it with additional synthetic training data. Two kinds of perturbations are applied, geometrical transformations and thinning/thicken...

Off-line Arabic Handwritten Recognition Using a Novel Hybrid HMM-DNN Model

In order to facilitate the entry of data into the computer and its digitalization, automatic recognition of printed texts and manuscripts is one of the considerable aid to many applications. Research on automatic document recognition started decades ago with the recognition of isolated digits and letters, and today, due to advancements in machine learning methods, efforts are being made to iden...

Offline Handwritten English Script Recognition: A Survey

OFFLINE handwriting recognition is the task of determining what letters or words are present in a digital image of handwritten text. It is of significant benefit to man-machine communication and can assist in the automatic processing of handwritten documents. It is a subtask of Optical Character Recognition (OCR), whose domain can be machine-print or handwriting but is more commonly machine-pri...
